The University of Regina's women's basketball team used a massive third quarter to pull away from the Brandon Bobcats for a 72-45 win on Thursday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars led by 11 at halftime, but outscored the Bobcats by a 25-4 margin in the third quarter to give the home side an insurmountable lead.

Julia Vydrova led the Cougars with a career-high 25 points and hit her first U SPORTS three-pointer while also collecting 11 rebounds and five assists. Jade Belmore chipped in with her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and tying Vydrova for the game high with 11 rebounds.

And Faith Reid hit four three-pointers, giving her 58 for the season which leaves her just one shy of Katie Polischuk's school single-season record of 59 which the former Cougar sharpshooter set back during the 2013-14 season. Reid finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Brandon (0-15) was led by Chelsea Misskey's 11 points. Misskey was 3-for-5 from three-point range and 4-for-6 overall.

The win improves Regina's Canada West record to 7-8 for the season. The two teams will meet again on Friday night at the CKHS (7:00 PM) in what will be the final conference game of the season for both teams.

NOTES: With the Cougars locked into third place in Canada West's East Division and Brandon assured of a fifth-place finish, both teams have a narrow range of possible seeds in the 17-team single-elimination conference postseason ... the Cougars will be either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed, while Brandon will be seeded anywhere from No. 15 through No. 17 depending on the results on the out-of-town scoreboard this weekend ... Thursday's contest was the U of R's annual Shoot for the Cure game with proceeds to support the Kevin Tell Legacy Fund.
