Winnipeg uses big third quarter to pull away from Cougars

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team dropped a 79-59 decision to Winnipeg on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winnipeg led from start to finish, opening up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and scoring the final six points of the second to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.
  • The third quarter, though, was all Winnipeg. The Wesmen outscored Regina by a 28-8 margin in the period, helping turn the 12-point halftime advantage into a lead that reached as many as 34 points early in the fourth.

NOTES
  • Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo led the Cougars with 14 points. Jalen Edwards added 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Majok Madol had 11 points.
  • The Cougars are now one of four Canada West teams with identical 5-6 conference records. Regina, Thompson Rivers, Fraser Valley, and UNBC will all go into Saturday tied for ninth in the 17-team Canada West standings.
  • Winnipeg (8-3) was led by Ryan Luke's 16 points. Luke also added nine rebounds to fall just short of a double-double.
