Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars fall to Winnipeg despite three-point barrage

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team lost 95-90 to Winnipeg on Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars held a slim 53-51 advantage at the half and built up an eight-point lead in the third quarter, but Winnipeg changed the course of the game with a massive run to finish the period.
  • Winnipeg scored the last 15 points of the third, turning the 69-61 Regina lead into a 76-69 advantage for the Wesmen, and also got the first two buckets of the fourth quarter to make it a 19-0 run.
  • The Cougars battled back to make it a four-point game with just over three minutes to go, but weren't able to get any closer until a Carter Millar layup with 20 seconds left made it 93-90 for Winnipeg. On the ensuing possession, the Wesmen's Alberto Gordo was fouled and hit both of his free throw attempts to all but seal the victory.

NOTES
  • Regina was 16-for-27 from three-point land, with the team's 59.3% clip standing as the second-highest percentage ever by the Cougars in a Canada West game.
  • Brayden Kuski was 5-for-8 on three-point attempts, while Nigel Warden hit all three of his shots from the arc and Carter Millar was 3-for-6. Majok Madol, Jalen Edwards, Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo, Matt Barnard, and Nick Barnard all hit one triple.
  • Madol finished with a career-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kuski scored 21 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
  • Winnipeg's Mikhail Mikhailov had a team-high 24 points.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars' stretch of four consecutive road games continues next weekend on the West Coast. They'll battle UBC on Friday night and Saturday night in Vancouver.
