Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 1 Cougars fall into tie for first place after road loss to Winnipeg

QUICKLY
  • The No. 1-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team dropped a 76-52 road decision to Winnipeg on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a close first quarter, the Cougars never recovered after Winnipeg outscored them 24-9 in the second.
  • That Wesmen run gave them a 39-23 lead at halftime, and three-pointers on three consecutive possessions midway through the third pushed the Winnipeg lead into near-insurmountable territory.

NOTES
  • The result creates a four-way jam atop the Canada West standings as the Cougars, Winnipeg, Alberta, and Saskatchewan all have 9-2 records.
  • Zoe Hartmann had a team-high 14 points for the Cougars, while Eden Wells came off the bench to score 10 points in just 15 minutes on the floor.
  • Kyanna Giles led Winnipeg with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

NEXT UP
  • The two teams will play again on Saturday night in Winnipeg. Game time is set for 7:00 PM following the conclusion of the men's game.
