Cougars drop Saturday decision to UBC at War Memorial

  • The UBC Thunderbirds took a 90-65 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in a Canada West men's basketball game at the War Memorial Gymnasium in Vancouver.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UBC led 21-12 after the opening period, then had a huge second quarter as they outscored the Cougars by a 28-11 margin to take a 49-23 lead into halftime.
  • The Thunderbirds pushed the lead past 30 in the third quarter and were up by 34 at one point in the fourth before the Cougars closed on a 13-4 run with Jalen Edwards scoring 11 of those U of R points.

NOTES
  • Edwards and Carter Millar both finished with 16 points to lead the Cougars.

  • After four straight away games, the Cougars (5-9) return home next weekend to host Lethbridge in what will be a pivotal series in the Canada West playoff race. The Cougars are among four five-win teams that are tied for the final two conference playoff berths, while Lethbridge (4-10) lurks just one win behind that group.
