Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Wesmen score straight-sets win over Cougars

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's volleyball team lost in three sets to the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It looked as though the Cougars were on their way to an opening-set win after going up 19-14 in the first, but Winnipeg's Kely Warmington - who had just entered the match as a sub - served the Wesmen six consecutive points to put them into the lead. The run continued with Selva Planincic serving, and an Emma Parker kill put the finishing touches on what was an 11-1 run for Winnipeg to claim the set by a 25-20 score.
  • The second set featured 12 tie scores and 4 lead changes, but another late Winnipeg run put the visitors on top. This time the Cougars held a 21-20 lead, but four straight points with Warmington on serve gave the Wesmen a 25-22 win.
  • The third set was all Winnipeg as the Wesmen hit .321 as a team and rolled to a 25-13 win.

NOTES
  • Bailey Balaberda had 11 kills and 8 digs for the Cougars, while Devyn Grimsrud got the start and had 6 kills and no errors on 14 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage.
  • McKenzie Keibel had 12 digs in the first set alone and finished with a match-high 21.
  • Planincic had 11 kills and a blistering .370 hitting percentage for Winnipeg, which improves to 13-5 on the season.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will head to the West Coast for two road matches at Trinity Western in Langley, B.C. next weekend.
