Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars hang on for Saturday win over Lethbridge

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team held on for a 74-71 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lethbridge jumped out of the gates quickly as Jeff Rodehutskors helped the Pronghorns get out to a 19-8 lead, but the Cougars put together a 21-6 run over the next seven minutes to take their first lead of the game.
  • The Cougars led 38-35 at the half and led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but Deng Dak and Angelo Mbituyimana sparked a 12-2 Lethbridge run that made it a one-point game with four minutes to go.
  • Lethbridge stayed within a possession of the Cougars until a big Carter Millar three-pointer from the left corner with a minute left put them up four, and on the next possession Millar drove hard to the basket for a layup that made it 73-67.
  • Lethbridge had a chance to tie it at the buzzer as they got the ball back with 2.6 seconds to go trailing by three, but the inbounds pass went into the low past and a missed layup sealed the win for the Cougars.

NOTES
  • The win gives the Cougars (7-9) a weekend sweep over Lethbridge. They went into the weekend in 12th place in the Canada West standings, but the two wins move them up into 10th as they'll look to lock up a playoff berth over the remaining four games of the conference schedule.
  • Brayden Kuski finished with a team-high 16 points for the Cougars, while Majok Madol scored 14 and Millar finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Rodehutskors had 24 points and 9 rebounds for Lethbridge. Mbituyimana added 21 points and 10 rebounds.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars are right back at home next weekend. They'll host Calgary (8-8) on Friday and Saturday at the CKHS.
