Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars score convincing win over Calgary

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team cruised to a convincing 73-57 win over Calgary on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars never trailed and led from nearly wire to wire. They went on an early 12-1 run to help them build up a 20-8 lead after the first quarter, then outscored Calgary 23-11 in the second to take a 43-19 lead into the halftime break.
  • Calgary went on a 9-0 run at the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth to get to within 12 points, but the Cougars responded with a 9-0 run themselves to end any hope of a Calgary comeback.

NOTES
  • Carter Millar led the Cougars with 21 points and 12 rebounds while also collecting a team-high 5 assists.
  • Majok Madol had 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Matt Barnard had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Regina and Calgary both move to 8-9 on the season with the result. The winner of Saturday's game between the Cougars and the Dinos will officially lock down a Canada West playoff berth, though both teams are almost certainly headed to the postseason barring a massive tiebreaking scenario in the final standings.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will host the Dinos again on Saturday at the CKHS. The game is slated for an 8:00 start, though it's expected to tip a little later than that due to Senior Night ceremonies scheduled to take place between the women's game and the men's game.
