Vydrova leads Cougars to 89-63 win over Victoria

QUICKLY
  • The No. 1-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team improved its Canada West record to 8-1 with an 89-63 home win over Victoria on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Julia Vydrova's perfect first half helped the Cougars to a solid start. She was 8-for-8 from the field and had 17 points at halftime, helping the U of R to a 50-35 lead at the break.
  • The Cougars took control with a 14-2 run in the first quarter, then started the second period on a 12-4 run which gave them a double-digit lead that they'd hold onto for the remainder of the game.

NOTES
  • Vydrova finished 9-for-10 from the field, finishing with 19 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double.
  • Five other Cougars broke into double figures including Cara Misskey with 14, Zoe Hartmann with 13, Jade Belmore and Madeleine Tell with 11 apiece, and Dayna Pearce with 10.
  • Victoria's Ashlyn Day led all players with 30 points and fell just short of a double-double with 9 rebounds.

  • The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
