Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars start strong, but fall 5-2 to Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team opened the scoring and held a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes, but the Cougars were defeated 5-2 by Saskatchewan on Friday night in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carson Sass got the Cougars on the board after firing a shot from the right point just seconds after Saskatchewan was assessed a hooking minor. Sass' shot through traffic found the back of the net for the second-year defenceman's first goal of the campaign.
  • The Huskies took the lead in the second period off goals by Chantz Petruic and Raphael Pelletier, but Regina quickly tied it up when Jakob Brook took a slick feed from Eric Pearce and roofed it short side for his third of the season.
  • But Saskatchewan had an even quicker reply. Just 21 seconds after Brook's goal, Ben Tkachuk scored to put the Huskies back on top and three minutes later, Carter Stebbings scored again as the home side took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
  • Keaton Sorensen added some extra insurance with a power play goal for the Huskies late in the third.

NOTES
  • Ayden Third drew the second assist on Brook's goal, the first helper of his U SPORTS career.
  • Adam Evanoff got the start in net for the Cougars and made 29 saves.
  • The Cougars finished 1-for-6 on the power play while Saskatchewan was 2-for-3.

NEXT UP
The two teams will play another U-Prairie Challenge game on Saturday night, this time in Regina at The Co-operators Centre. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
