QUICKLY
Paycen Bjorklund and
Jackson Doucet both scored in the first period to give the University of Regina's men's hockey team an early lead, but the Cougars fell 3-2 to Saskatchewan on Saturday night in a U-Prairie Challenge matchup at The Co-operators Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bjorklund opened the scoring five minutes in after getting a nice feed from Carson Sass and quickly lifting the puck over Saskatchewan goalie Roddy Ross.
- And under three minutes later, Doucet scored after taking a pass on a 2-on-1 from Jayden Davis to put the home side up two.
- The Cougars took that 2-0 lead into the second, but just after the midway point of the middle frame Saskatchewan scored twice in a span of 38 seconds off goals from Vince Loschiavo and Chantz Petruic.
- Saskatchewan scored what would be the game-winning goal late in the second on Raphael Pelletier's fourth of the season.
NOTES
- Bjorklund's goal was his fifth of the season, putting him into a five-way tie for third in Canada West in that category.
- Leyton Holoien collected his first career Canada West point as he drew the second assist on Bjorklund's goal.
- Adam Evanoff started in net for the third consecutive game and stopped 33 of Saskatchewan's 36 shots.
- Penalty kills dominated the special teams battle. Saskatchewan was 0-for-6 on the power play while the Cougars were 0-for-4.
- The Cougars (2-4-2) continue to hold sixth place in the Canada West standings, one point up on seventh-place MacEwan.
