Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saskatchewan shuts out Cougars for Friday win

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team lost 3-0 to Saskatchewan in a U-Prairie Challenge game on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saskatchewan opened the scoring on the power play in the latter stages of the first period. Kara Kondrat's shot from the right circle bounced off Paris Oleksyn and the richochet went right to Mallory Dyer, who popped it into the open net.
  • Kondrat was given credit for Saskatchewan's second goal, which was scored 7:40 into the second as Isabella Pozzi's point shot bounced off Kondrat's shoulder and past Cougar goalie Arden Kliewer.
  • Saskatchewan closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 10 seconds to go.

NOTES
  • Friday's game was a quiet contest in terms of penalties. Saskatchewan finished 1-for-2 on the power play while the Cougars had just one power play opportunity.
  • Kliewer made 21 saves before being pulled for an extra attacker with two minutes to go.
  • Shots on goal were almost dead even. Saskatchewan held a 24-23 advantage in that category.

NEXT UP
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Saskatoon. The U-Prairie Challenge contest will face off at 7:00 PM.
