Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars defeated 4-1 by No. 6 Calgary

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team was topped 4-1 by No. 6-ranked Calgary on Friday night in a Canada West game at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded early goals, first on Marty Westhaver's first of the season for the Dinos just 95 seconds into the contest. Carson Sass tied it up for the Cougars less than six minutes later after Eric Houk finessed a beautiful feed across to the third-year defenceman.
  • After the teams went into the first intermission tied 1-1, Max Patterson scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with the Dinos on the power play and with just two minutes remaining in the middle frame. Patterson's goal, his fourth of the season, was a deflection off a Zach Wytinck point shot.
  • Calgary's Colson Gengenbach scored an insurance goal just 55 seconds into the third, and just three minutes later Adam Kydd extended the lead to three for the visitors.

NOTES
  • Culling also assisted on Sass' goal, giving him a team-leading six helpers for the season.
  • Curtis Meger got the start in net for Regina and stopped 28 of Calgary's 32 shots.
  • Calgary held a 32-21 advantage in shots on Friday. The Dinos were 1-for-2 on the power play while Regina was 0-for-3.
