Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars fall 3-1 to Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 on Saturday night by Saskatchewan in a U-Prairie Challenge game in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saskatchewan struck twice in the first half. The Huskies opened the scoring on a Jade Houmphanh shot from 23 yards out in the 26th minute, then added to the lead on a Cheyenne Lehmann strike in the 41st.
  • Hailey Weber's goal in the 77th minute following a U of S corner kick put the Huskies up 3-0, all but ending any hope of a Regina comeback.
  • Kirsten Koellmel scored Regina's lone goal in second-half injury time. Following a Miranda Baker free kick from well out, the ball bounced to Koellmel who headed it in for her second goal of the season.

STANDINGS
  • The Cougars (2-6-4) remain in fifth place in Canada West's Prairie Division standings, but are now just one point up on sixth-place Manitoba who will go for a weekend sweep over Winnipeg on Sunday.

NEXT UP
With the final Prairie Division playoff berth on the line, only two matches remain on the Canada West schedule for the Cougars. They'll head to Winnipeg next weekend to meet Manitoba on Saturday and Winnipeg on Sunday.
