Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars complete season-opening sweep over TWU

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team completed a two-game sweep over Trinity Western on Saturday with an 81-65 road win over the Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second straight night, the Cougars went on a huge first-quarter push. This time, it was a 17-2 run that turned a one-point Regina lead into a 27-11 advantage.
  • While the Cougars led for the rest of the game, it wasn't easy. Trinity Western chipped away at the lead and trailed by single digits at halftime before getting to within two points early in the third quarter, but the Cougars again caught fire to pull away for good. This time, it was a 19-1 run that included three-pointers by Jalen Edwards, Matt Barnard, and Hayden Collier to push the Regina lead to 20 points.

NOTES
  • Hayden Collier had career highs in both points and rebounds, finishing with 14 and 8 in the win.
  • The Cougars (2-0) are the only undefeated team remaining in Canada West through the first two weekends of the conference schedule.
  • Five Cougar players hit double figures in scoring, led by 16 points by Edwards. Collier's 14 was next, followed by Matt Barnard with 11 and Nick Barnard and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo both with 10.
  • Cade Mather played 27 minutes and finished with 7 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
