Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Late Manitoba surge gives Bisons 3-2 win over Cougars

QUICKLY
The University of Manitoba Bisons scored twice in the span of 29 seconds late in the third period to take a 3-2 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Logan Barlage continued his recent run of strong play by scoring the game's opening goal, extending his point streak to three games after poking home the puck following a wild goalmouth scramble late in the second.
  • The Cougars extended the lead to 2-0 on a Jakob Brook wraparound past the six-minute mark of the third period, but Manitoba started its comeback shortly thereafter.
  • Jonny Hooker got Manitoba on the board with a shot from the right point that beat Cougar goalie Ethan Anders to the glove side just over two minutes after Brook's goal.
  • Regina's lead stayed at 2-1 until with just under three minutes to go in regulation, then Manitoba broke out. Colton Veloso got a power play goal courtesy of a strange bounce off a Regina defenceman, and just 29 seconds later Jackson Arpin scored from in tight off an Evan Toth pass to notch his first of the season and the game-winning goal.

NOTES
  • Eric Pearce assisted on Brook's goal, giving him 10 helpers for the season.
  • Ethan Anders got the start for Regina and stopped 38 shots.
  • Regina was 1-for-2 with the power play while Manitoba was 2-for-4.
  • Both teams registered 41 shots on net.

NEXT UP
With their five-game homestand now complete, the Cougars will hit the road next weekend for games against Alberta on Friday and Saturday.
