Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars suffer 4-0 Friday setback to Alberta

QUICKLY
The University of Alberta scored once in the first, once in the second, then put the game away with two goals in 21 seconds in the third as the Pandas took a 4-0 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West women's hockey game at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cassidy Maplethorpe scored both of Alberta's first two goals. She got the first goal early in the first after settling a bouncing puck in the slot and snapping it past Regina goalie Natalie Williamson. Her second goal came following an Ella Stewner point shot late in the second. Natalie Kieser took a swipe at it, but it went right to Maplethorpe who knocked home her third of the season.
  • Alberta put the game away with two goals in the span of just 21 seconds. Abby Soyko notched her first of the campaign with helpers from Abbey Bourdeaud'Hui and Payton Laumbach and after a Regina body-checking penalty, Brooklyn Tews walked in from the point and closed out the scoring with a power play goal.

NOTES
  • Williamson ended up making 30 of 34 saves for the Cougars in the loss.
  • Kieser had a three-point night for the Pandas, all of which were assists.
  • Alberta moves to 9-2-2 with the win, while the Cougars drop to 4-8-1 on the season.

NEXT UP
The two teams will square off again at The Co-operators Centre on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 5:00 PM.
