Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars keep rolling with 64-56 win over Fraser Valley

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team made it five straight wins to start the Canada West schedule on Friday night with a 64-56 win over Fraser Valley at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As is now custom for this U of R team, Friday's win came courtesy of the Cougars' work on the defensive side of the ball.
  • The Cougars never trailed in the first half, leading 15-14 after the opening period and 28-26 at the break. They continued to lead throughout almost the entire third quarter until a three-pointer by UFV's Dylan Kinley just before the buzzer gave the Cascades their first lead of the game at 48-47.
  • UFV held a tight lead for the first half of the fourth, but a Dario Lopez bucket with 4:40 to go turned out to be the Cascades' final field goal of the night. The Cougars took the lead for good on a Matt Barnard jumper on the next possession, and Cade Mather hit two huge late three-pointers to put the Cougars up eight.

NOTES
  • Lodie Kenyi had a double-double for the Cougars with 17 points and 10 rebounds while also leading the Cougars with 4 assists and 4 steals.
  • Nick Barnard scored 14 points while leading all players with 37 minutes on the floor.
  • Mather finished with a season-high 13 points.
  • Hayden Collier was dominant on the defensive side of the ball for the Cougars, finishing with 10 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.
