Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

No. 6 Calgary takes 4-2 Saturday win over Cougars

QUICKLY
Three quick second-period goals were the difference as the University of Regina's men's hockey team lost by a 4-2 margin to Calgary on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marty Westhaver scored the only goal of the opening frame for either team, notching his second of the season and second of the weekend on a wraparound late in the first.
  • The Cougars tied it up five minutes into the second. Logan Barlage loaded up for a shot in the slot, but instead slipped a slick feed over to Kade Runke who hit a nearly wide-open net for his second goal of the campaign.
  • But Calgary then scored three goals in a span of just 1:53. Riley Stotts restored the Calgary lead on the power play, then Tyson Upper what would turn out to be the game-winning goal 68 seconds later and Zach Wytinck capped the outburst 45 seconds after that.
  • Jayden Davis scored for the Cougars on the power play late in the second after sweeping in his own rebound, but that would turn out to be the final goal of the contest for either team.

NOTES
  • Matt Culling drew the assist on Davis' goal, giving him a team-high seven assists for the season.
  • Regina goalie Adam Evanoff was kept busy in net as Calgary had a 44-17 advantage in shots. Evanoff finished with 40 saves.
  • Both teams scored once with the man advantage. Calgary was 1-for-5 on the power play while the Cougars were 1-for-4.

NEXT UP
The Cougars are right back at home next weekend as they'll host Manitoba on Friday (7:00 PM) and Saturday (5:00 PM) at The Co-operators Centre.
