Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Three-game winning streak snapped as Cougars lose 2-0 to Manitoba

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team had its three-game win streak snapped after suffering a 2-0 loss to Manitoba on Thursday night in Winnipeg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dana Goertzen got the Bisons on the board with what would be the game-winning goal just over a minute and a half into the game on a deflection off an Aimee Patrick shot from the left point.
  • That was it for scoring until the third period. The Cougars killed off a pair of penalties, one late in the first and the other late in the second. They got two opportunities on the power play themselves, both in the second, but weren't able to convert.
  • Patrick added an insurance goal for Manitoba after stepping into a wrist shot from the top of the right circle and putting it high glove side to put Manitoba up two just before the midway mark of the final period.

NOTES
  • Arden Kliewer started in net for the Cougars and stopped 29 of Manitoba's 31 shots.
  • The Cougars (3-7-1) now sit two points behind sixth-place Manitoba in the still-early Canada West standings.

NEXT UP
The two teams will close out the two-game weekend set on Friday night at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.
