Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars lock up postseason berth with road win over MacEwan

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team locked up a Canada West playoff berth with an 81-71 road win over MacEwan on Friday night in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars jumped out to a 28-20 lead after the first quarter, then had a huge second period which saw them outscore MacEwan by a 29-16 margin to take a commanding 57-36 lead into the break.
  • MacEwan went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter to get back into it and cut the Regina advantage down to nine at one point early in the fourth, but the Cougars quickly restored the double-digit advantage. The Griffins eventually got to within eight late in the game but it was too little, too late as there was less than a minute remaining and a Nick Barnard flush on the ensuing possession sealed the win.

NOTES
  • Carter Millar had a massive 26-point, 20-rebound double-double for the Cougars.
  • Regina (9-10) can finish as the No. 8, No. 9, or No. 10 seed in the Canada West postseason depending on the Saturday result against MacEwan along with the UNBC/Brandon and Calgary/Mount Royal games.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will finish off the Canada West schedule on Saturday afternoon against MacEwan. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
