Cougars sweep MacEwan; head into Canada West postseason as No. 8 seed

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team put the wraps on their conference schedule with a 96-82 road win over MacEwan on Saturday in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams played a close, high-scoring first quarter and it was tight again in the second until the Cougars closed the half on a 13-3 run which gave them a 54-44 lead at the break.
  • The Cougars put some more distance between the two teams in the third quarter, outscoring MacEwan 16-5 in the back half of the period to take an 80-61 lead into the fourth.
  • Regina pushed the lead past 20 early in the fourth quarter and cruised to victory down the stretch.

NOTES
  • Carter Millar had another double-double for the Cougars, finishing with 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds.
  • Four other Cougars hit double figures in scoring, including Matt Barnard with 15 points, Nick Barnard with 13, and both Brayden Kuski and Hayden Collier with 12.
  • Collier added six rebounds and six assists in a spirited 22 minutes on the floor.

PLAYOFFS
  • The Cougars will head into the Canada West postseason as the conference's No. 8 seed and will match up with No. 9 seed UNBC in a play-in game next weekend.
  • The location of that play-in game has yet to be determined. Regina and UNBC will meet in either Victoria or Winnipeg depending on the results from the rest of the conference on Saturday.
