Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars force overtime with 0.4 seconds to go, but fall 5-4 to MRU in extra session

QUICKLY
Eric Houk deflected in a Randen Schmidt point shot with under a second to go in regulation to force overtime, but Mount Royal scored early in the extra frame to take a 5-4 win on Saturday night in Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded early goals, with Paycen Bjorklund scoring his first as a Cougar just 51 seconds in before Mount Royal's Tim Gould replied only 30 seconds later.
  • Robbie Holmes then scored twice for MRU - once late in the first and then again early in the second - before Jayden Davis scored his first of the year for Regina after knocking in a rebound with his skate.
  • Remy Aquilon restored the two-goal lead for MRU heading into the second intermission, but the Cougars mounted a big comeback in the third. Jakob Brook beat an MRU defender to a rebound and tapped home his first as a Cougar, then Houk's deflection with 0.4 seconds left on the clock sent the game to overtime.
  • While Houk's goal secured a big road point for Regina, Connor Blake scored the overtime winner just 28 seconds in to secure the weekend sweep for Mount Royal.

NOTES
  • Adam Evanoff started his second game in as many nights for Regina and stopped 27 of Mount Royal's 32 shots.
  • Bjorklund also assisted on Houk's game-tying goal in the third, giving the forward his first two-point game as a Cougar.
  • Regina finished 0-for-6 on the power play while Mount Royal was 1-for-7.
