Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Kenyi scores 16 to lead Cougars to win over UNBC

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team got back to its winning ways on Friday with a 77-54 win over UNBC at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regina led 17-15 after the first quarter and then scored buckets on five consecutive possessions late in the second to help the Cougars take a 39-31 lead into halftime.
  • The late surge before the break carried over into the second half as the Cougars outscored UNBC by a 24-10 margin in the third quarter. That pushed what had been a single-digit lead into a 22-point advantage heading into the fourth and while UNBC scored the first four points of the final quarter, Steve Burrows called a quick timeout and the Cougars rallied with the next 10 points to all but put the game out of reach.

NOTES
  • Lodie Kenyi was 6-for-11 from the field, hit two triples, and finished with a team-leading 16 points for the Cougars.
  • Nick Barnard and Jalen Edwards both chipped in with 12 points for Regina, which improves its Canada West record to 9-2 on the season.
  • Spencer Ledoux led UNBC (6-5) with 16 points.
  • UNBC's Thursday trip from Prince George, B.C. to Regina turned into an odyssey after the team's connecting flight from Calgary made it to about Swift Current before turning around and heading back to Calgary. The Timberwolves finally made it to Regina at just after 5:00 AM on Friday.

NEXT UP
The Cougars and UNBC will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS following the conclusion of the women's game. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
