Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

No. 5 Mount Royal opens weekend with win over Cougars

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss to No. 5-ranked Mount Royal on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre in Regina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It looked as though the two teams might go into the first intermission in a scoreless deadlock, but Mount Royal's Connor Bouchard scored from a sharp angle off a rebound with just 19 seconds to go in the opening frame to put the visitors up 1-0.
  • The two teams combined for four goals in the middle stanza. Robbie Fromm-Delorme took a nice feed from Bouchard and tapped in his third of the season, and just 67 seconds later MRU made it a 3-0 game off a goal from Remy Aquilon.
  • The Cougars got on the board later in the period when Paycen Bjorklund corralled a loose puck in front of the MRU net and potted his seventh of the campaign, but Mount Royal restored the three-goal lead only a minute and a half later with a Dawson Milliken goal.
  • Connor Blake finished off the scoring with an insurance marker on the power play seven minutes into the third.

NOTES
  • Matt Culling and Logan Barlage drew the assists on Bjorklund's goal.
  • Adam Evanoff got the start in net for the Cougars and made 21 saves.
  • Bouchard had a three-point night for MRU, increasing his Canada West-leading point total to 46.

NEXT UP
