QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team hung tough with No. 5-ranked Mount Royal for two and a half periods, but MRU put up three power play goals in the final stanza and took a 4-0 win on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mount Royal opened the scoring when Connor Bouchard found Jaden Senkoe for a one-timer just past the midway mark of the opening period.
- MRU took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission, and the two teams played a scoreless second period with Mount Royal still hanging onto the one-goal advantage.
- Regina ran into penalty trouble shortly after MRU's Connor Blake was whistled for delay of game eight minutes into the third. The Cougars took five minor penalties in under eight minutes, with Mount Royal scoring three times with the man advantage during that time. Robbie Fromm-Delorme, Robbie Holmes, and Senkoe notched the power play goals for Mount Royal, helping the visitors skate away with the 4-0 win and the weekend road sweep over the Cougars.
NOTES
- Shane Farkas stopped all 10 shots he faced to register his Canada West-leading fourth shutout of the season for Mount Royal.
- MRU ended up 3-for-7 on the power play. Regina was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
- Curtis Meger got the start in net for the Cougars and stopped 29 of 33 shots.
NEXT UP
