Mount Royal takes 3-0 Friday win over Regina

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team fell 3-0 to Mount Royal on Friday night at the Flames Community Arenas in Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mount Royal scored once in each period, including late in the first when Sydney Benko shovelled in a loose puck following a shot from the right circle by Emma Bergesen with MRU on the power play.
  • Breanne Trotter extended Mount Royal's lead just past the midway point of the second period after one-timing a pass from behind the net by Allee Gerrard.
  • MRU all but sealed the win with a late insurance goal. Athena Hauck sent Gabby Lindsay in all alone, and Lindsay went five-hole on the breakaway to put Mount Royal up by three.

NOTES
  • Natalie Williamson got the start in net for Regina and stopped 26 of Mount Royal's 29 shots.
  • Gerrard and Bergesen both registered two assists for Mount Royal while Kaitlyn Ross had a 21-save shutout.
  • Regina finished 0-for-4 on the power play. MRU was 1-for-5.
