Streak comes to an end as Cougars fall to No.7 Manitoba

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team's historic winning streak came to an end on Friday as the Cougars lost 94-65 to No. 7-ranked Manitoba on Friday night in Winnipeg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Manitoba opened up a double-digit lead in the opening quarter and extended that lead to as many as 16 points in the second. The Cougars brought it back to single digits with a two-handed dunk by Cade Mather late in the half, but Manitoba took a 54-43 lead into the break.
  • The Bisons opened up the second half with three-pointers by Daren Watts and Cieran O'Hara on their opening two possessions and used a 16-1 run later in the quarter to push the lead to 30. Manitoba led 80-56 after three and surrendered just nine points in the fourth quarter to improve its conference record to 9-2 on the season.

NOTES
  • The loss snapped Regina's program-record streak of eight consecutive conference victories, dropping the team's Canada West record to 8-1. The Cougars continue to have the best winning percentage in the conference at .889, just ahead of second-place Victoria (6-1) and third-place Manitoba (9-2).
  • Simon Hildebrandt scored a game-high 23 points in the win for Manitoba.
  • Jalen Edwards came off the bench to lead Regina with 13 points.

The teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM following the conclusion of the women's game.
