Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's hockey falls 3-0 to Saskatchewan in Saskatoon

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team outshot Saskatchewan on Friday night in Saskatoon, but was defeated 3-0 by the Huskies at Merlis Belsher Place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regina had a 12-8 edge in shots in the first period, but it was Saskatchewan opening the scoring with two goals in a span of just 73 seconds late in the frame. Mallory Dyer scored first following a blocked shot, and Jacquelyne Chief added to the lead shortly thereafter with a wrist shot from near the right faceoff dot.
  • Neither team scored in the second despite a total of 26 shots on net, 16 of which were directed toward Saskatchewan goalie Camryn Drever. The Cougars had two power play chances in the middle frame, but weren't able to convert.
  • Drever made a pair of third-period saves to secure her fourth shutout of the season. Regina pulled goalie Arden Kliewer late in the frame, but Saskatchewan iced the win with an empty net goal by Kara Kondrat.

NOTES
  • Kliewer faced 23 shots and stopped 21 of them.
  • The Cougars also had a power play in the third and finished 0-for-3 with the advantage. Regina successfully killed off both of Saskatchewan's power play chances.
  • Regina finished with a 30-24 edge in shots on net.
