Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Late goal lifts Saskatchewan to 5-4 win over Cougars

QUICKLY
A goal with four minutes left proved to be the winner as the University of Regina's men's hockey team was edged 5-4 by Saskatchewan on Saturday in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded goals in the opening 20 minutes. Shane Collins opening the scoring for Saskatchewan midway through the frame, but Christian Riemer replied for the Cougars with his first of the season after leading a rush up the right side and batting home his own rebound.
  • Saskatchewan regained the lead with a Keaton Sorensen power play goal in the second, but Regina's Griffin Asham-Moroz took a nice feed from Jayden Davis on a 2-on-1 and scored his second of the campaign to tie it up.
  • The Huskies connected on the power play for the second time in the middle stanza on a Vince Loschiavo goal, putting them up 3-2 at the second intermission. Saskatchewan extended the lead to 4-2 early in the third with a Reed Jacobson goal, but the Cougars answered almost immediately.
  • Kade Runke won a battle along the left boards and walked into the slot before beating Saskatchewan goalie Roddy Ross less than a minute after Jacobson's goal, then the Cougars tied it up as Paycen Bjorklund notched a power play marker just past the midway point of the period.
  • Saskatchewan's Chantz Petruic scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with four minutes to go.

NOTES
  • Davis also assisted on Runke's goal, giving him a two-point night.
  • Curtis Meger got the start in net for Regina and stopped 27 Saskatchewan shots.
  • Regina was 1-for-6 on the power play while Saskatchewan scored twice on its five opportunities.
