Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Huskies win U-Prairie Challenge game at Brandt Centre

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team was defeated by a 9-0 score on Sunday night in a U-Prairie Challenge game at the Brandt Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Huskies opened the scoring with two goals in the first including a power play goal by Liam Keeler and an even strength marker by Cade Hayes.
  • It was still a two-goal game midway through the contest, but Saskatchewan scored four times in the final 10:12 of the second period to pull away from Regina. Justin Ball scored before Carter Stebbings added another one on the power play for the Huskies, and Ball and Keeler scored two shorthanded goals late in the period after Saskatchewan had been whistled for back-to-back minors.
  • Ball completed the hat trick in the third period and Chantz Petruic and Mark Rumsey finished off the scoring for the Huskies late in the contest.

NOTES
  • Adam Evanoff got the start in net for the Cougars. Curtis Meger came on in relief for the third period.
  • Dawson Holt and Vince Loschiavo both had three-assist nights for Saskatchewan while Jordan Kooy registered a 21-save shutout.
  • With eight games remaining on the Canada West schedule, the Cougars remain just three points back of MacEwan for the sixth and final playoff spot.
  • Sunday's game was the U of R's first game at the Brandt Centre since they hosted four contests there during the 2007-08 season.

NEXT UP
The Cougars have next weekend off before returning to action with home games against Mount Royal on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20.
