Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Career night from McEachern leads Cougars to straight-sets win over U of S

Fourth-year outside hitter puts down 18 kills to lead U of R to U Prairie Challenge win

QUICKLY
Jordy McEachern's career-high 18 kills helped the University of Regina's women's volleyball team open the Canada West schedule with a straight-sets sweep over the Saskatchewan Huskies in a U-Prairie Challenge match on Friday night in Saskatoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars put up three consecutive points to break a 16-16 tie in the first set and led by at least two the rest of the way. Regina closed out the set with another run of three straight points, the first coming on a Devyn Grimsrud kill and the last two both on Saskatchewan attack errors as the Cougars opened up the match with a 25-20 win.
  • The second set saw the Cougars go on an early 9-2 run which featured five McEachern kills and turned a one-point lead for the U of R into a 15-7 advantage. The Cougars cruised to another 25-20 win, with yet another McEachern kill clinching the set.
  • The Cougars led for the majority of the third set and led for good after scoring three straight points after being tied up at 17-17. Regina went up 24-21 on a Grimsrud kill and though the Huskies got the next two points, the Cougars called a timeout and ended it on their third attempt at match point after McEachern crushed one down the left sideline for her final kill of the match.

NOTES
  • McEachern's 18 kills broke her previous career high of 17 which she set back on Jan. 13, 2023. She had just 3 errors on 34 attacks, giving her a .441 hitting percentage for the match.
  • Cougar libero McKenzie Keibel led all players with 15 digs while Reese Evjen finished with 11.
  • Cassadi Klapak collected 33 assists, 9 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and 2 kills.
