Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Enns breaks through with two to lead Cougars over Winnipeg

Lockhurst scores first, Enns strikes twice in three minutes in second half

QUICKLY
Peyton Enns scored two second-half goals in the span of just over three minutes to help power the University of Regina's women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lennox Lockhurst opened the scoring for the Cougars in the 29th minute after taking a pass from Emma Lowe and chipping a shot into the left corner of the net for her fifth goal of the campaign.
  • Winnipeg got the equalizer in the 39th minute after Regina was called for a hand ball in the box. Jazmyn Castro stepped up to the penalty spot and buried it for the Wesmen, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
  • Enns scored her first goal in the 51st minute on a fine individual effort. She took a pass from Sana Karam amidst a sea of Winnipeg defenders and took them all on, feinting to her left and slipping a ball to the far corner of the net with a precision right-footed shot.
  • Enns' second goal came in the 54th minute from nearly the exact same spot as she had just scored from. Karam put a through ball up to her, and this time she used her left foot to sneak it by the Winnipeg goaltender for her fifth goal of the season.

NOTES
  • Lockhurst and Enns made a bit of history on Saturday with both scoring their fifth goals of the season. It marks the first time in program history that the Cougars have had multiple five-goal scorers in the same season.
  • Cassidy Fedoruk made one save for the Cougars as she registers her fourth win in five starts this season.
  • Lowe's helper on Lockhurst's goal was her first assist at the U SPORTS level.

NEXT UP
The Cougars (5-7-1) will close out their 2024 season at Manitoba on Sunday at Princess Auto Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM (CDT).
