QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team was defeated 4-1 by Trinity Western on Friday night at the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley, B.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity Western got on the board just seconds into the game. Christian Lowe brought the puck in on a 2-on-1 and snapped a shot from the left circle to put the Spartans up only 22 seconds in. Connor Farren added his first of the season to give TWU a 2-0 lead midway through the period.
- The Spartans added two more goals in the second, first by Tyler Schweitzer midway through the frame. Schweitzer was sprung for a breakaway and his initial shot was high, but the puck rebounded off the glass and he was able to tuck it in behind Regina goalie Adam Evanoff. Lowe's second goal of the game put TWU up 4-0 heading into the second intermission.
- The Cougars ruined the shutout with a shorthanded goal in the final minute of regulation. A clearance by Adam McNutt was picked up by Carter Belitski, who faked a shot and went to his backhand on a breakaway to score his third of the season.
NOTES
- Shots were nearly dead even for the game with Trinity Western finishing with a 32-31 advantage.
- Friday's contest was relatively quiet in terms of penalties until Regina's Turner McMillen and TWU's Jake Jurgeneit had a minor disagreement late in the third. Both players got tossed, with McMillen being given a major for cross-checking which was about to expire when Belitski scored his shorthanded goal. Both teams finished 0-for-2 on the power play.
- Evanoff made 28 saves for the Cougars.
