QUICKLY
Jade Belmore joined the school's 1000-point club, but the University of Regina's women's basketball team dropped a 75-62 decision on the road to Lethbridge on Friday night in both teams' Canada West season opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars threw the first jab of the game in the first quarter when a Maddy Seida triple kicked off a 7-0 run that put them up seven. But Lethbridge quickly responded, and a three-pointer by Abby Graves brought the Pronghorns back to within one at 24-23 heading into the second. The two teams stayed tight through the second quarter. Lethbridge twice built up five-point leads, but the Cougars brought it back both times and the Pronghorns took a 43-42 lead into halftime.
- Regina went on a prolonged drought in the third quarter as the Cougars went nearly seven full minutes without a field goal. Lethbridge went on a 12-2 run in that time, turning what had been a two-point U of R lead into a 55-47 advantage for the Pronghorns.
- The Cougars continued to have issues solving the Lethbridge defence in the fourth, scoring a total of only nine points in the final quarter. A layup by Belmore brought them to within six points with a minute to go, but Lethbridge got another three-pointer by Graves and a Piper Dobbelsteyn layup on back-to-back possessions to put the game away.
1000 CLUB
The final bucket by Belmore gave the fourth-year wing her 1000th and 1001st career points. She becomes the 13th member of the U of R's 1000-point club, joining an exclusive crew which also includes all-time point leader Cymone Bouchard (1439), Jackie Moore (1368), Jana Schweitzer (1280), Corrin Wersta (1265), Trena Mott (1229), Bree Burgess (1165), Katie Polischuk (1133), Charlotte Kot (1122), Lindsay Ledingham (1078), Chelsea Cassano (1055), Deanne Shmyr (1055), and Annette Pfeifer (1000+).

- Seida came off the bench to score 10 points.
- Kyra Collier had a game-high 21 points for Lethbridge.
