Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars pick up point, but fall to TWU in overtime

Scraba collects goal, assist in OT loss

QUICKLY
Trinity Western's Kasey Ditner scored early in overtime to give the Spartans a 3-2 win over the Regina Cougars in a Canada West women's hockey game on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened up the scoring on a power play midway through the first period. Jordyn Blais took a shot from the right point which deflected off the shaft of a defender's stick and the puck fluttered up and over TWU goalie Kate Fawcett for the game's first goal.
  • Trinity Western tied it up late in the first on an individual effort by Charlotte Swanson, who forced a turnover behind the Regina net before walking out in front and lifting a backhander over Regina goalie Arden Kliewer for her first of the season.
  • TWU took the lead late in the second period with the Cougars serving a hooking minor when Olivia Leier redirected a nice pass from Kyra Anderson past Kliewer, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Cougars tied it up just shy of the midway mark of the third period, again on the power play. Trinity Grove found Shaylee Scraba in the slot and she fired a wrist shot over Fawcett's glove, giving the fourth-year forward her second goal of the season.
  • Ditner scored just 55 seconds into overtime, taking a low shot from the left circle to give TWU its second win of the season.

NOTES
  • The Cougars (5-0-2) remain the only Canada West team without a regulation loss and are now two points up on Alberta for first place in the East Division with a game in hand.
  • Scraba also assisted on Blais' goal, giving her a two-point night.
  • Kliewer made 22 saves for the Cougars.
  • Shots were 25-25 on Friday. Regina finished 2-for-7 on the power play while Trinity Western was 1-for-7.
