QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back, rolling to a 90-51 win over UNBC on Friday afternoon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars went on early 9-0 and 8-0 runs, helping open a 17-2 lead just past the midway point of the first quarter. Regina led by a 28-8 margin after the opening period and continued to add to the lead with 10 consecutive points late in the half as the Cougars took a 53-23 lead into the break.
- UNBC outscored Regina by a 18-17 margin in the third, though the outcome had long since been decided. The Cougars held UNBC without a field goal for the final four minutes as they cruised to a 39-point win.
NOTES
- The Cougars are now 5-1 on the season as they continue to hold down third place in the Prairie Division behind undefeated Alberta (2-0) and Winnipeg (1-0).
- Jade Belmore, Maddy Seida, and Cara Misskey each scored in double figures for the Cougars. Belmore had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists while Seida hit 3 triples and scored 17 points and Misskey had 16 points and 5 assists.
- Izzi Fust, Kyu Fust, and Brenna Metz each scored eight points for Regina.
- UNBC falls to 1-5 with the loss.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will now close out the first half of their Canada West schedule with two straight road weekends. They'll play twice at Manitoba next weekend, then twice at Mount Royal on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29.
