QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team won its third consecutive Canada West game on Saturday night after defeating UNBC by a 100-72 score at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saturday's game was similar to Friday's contest with the two teams playing it tight for the first half. The Cougars opened up an early double-digit lead in the first quarter, but UNBC brought it right back with a 13-2 second-quarter run and Regina took a slim 41-40 lead into the break.
- UNBC held a small lead for much of the third quarter and the game was still tied with three minutes to go in the period, but the Cougars – just as they did on Friday – took over the game late. Six different players scored as they went on a 16-2 run to close out the third, and Jamie White kickstarted a 7-0 run early in the fourth to help the Cougars build up a 20-point lead.
NOTES
- White and Ben Kamba both had huge nights for the Cougars. White led all players with 29 points and added 9 rebounds, while Kamba was 12-for-16 from the field and scored 27 points.
- Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo had a double-double for the U of R with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Lodie Kenyi also scored in double figures with 11 points.
- After dropping three straight games to open the Canada West schedule, the Cougars are now right back at .500 after last Saturday's win over Brandon and the two victories over UNBC this weekend. The Cougars are tied with Alberta for sixth place in Canada West's Prairie Division.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will finish off the first half of the Canada West schedule with two consecutive road weekends. They'll square off against Manitoba next Friday and Saturday in Winnipeg before meeting Mount Royal in a rare Thursday/Friday series on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 in Calgary.
