Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run by Brandon gives Bobcats win over Cougars

Brandon scores six unanswered points in final minute

QUICKLY
The Brandon Bobcats scored six points in the final minute to pull ahead of the Regina Cougars for an 87-83 win in a Canada West men's basketball game on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the two teams played it tight through the opening two quarters, Brandon threw the first real punch in the third. The Bobcats scored 11 straight points as part of a 15-2 run, turning what had been a 47-45 lead for Regina into a double-digit advantage for Brandon.
  • Regina brought it back in the fourth quarter and did so on the offensive end of the floor. The Cougars scored 23 points in just over 4 minutes on a run punctuated by back-to-back triples by Christian Tabiri and Jordan Persad which gave them an 80-79 lead with under 2 minutes to go.
  • Regina went up two after Ben Kamba hit a pair of free throws with 68 seconds remaining, but the Cougars went scoreless after that. Dewayne Thompson answered with a big three-pointer on Brandon's next possession, and the Bobcats hit three free throws and got three defensive stops after Thompson's triple to seal the road win.

NOTES
  • Tabiri had a game-high 23 points for Regina and also pulled down 8 rebounds.
  • Kamba finished with 19 points, 6 reobunds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
  • Jamie White had a nine-point, nine-rebound performance for Regina.
  • Brandon's Sultan Haider Bhatti led the Bobcats with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
