The University of Regina's men's basketball team collected its first Canada West victory of the season on Saturday night with an 86-65 victory over Brandon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars jumped out in front with a 14-2 run in the first quarter and led the rest of the way, though Brandon kept it close throughout the night. The Bobcats got the Regina lead down to four at one point in the second, but Regina scored the last three buckets of the half to take a 37-26 lead into the break.
- Regina led 58-47 after three quarters, and put the Bobcats away by scoring the final nine points of the game while holding Brandon scoreless over the final two and a half minutes.
NOTES
- Regina's balanced offence featured six players scoring in double figures including Jordan Persad and Jamie White, who both came off the bench to lead the Cougars with 15 points. Ben Kamba scored 14, Lodie Kenyi added 11, and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo and Christian Tabiri both had 10.
- Zachary Hillis led all players with nine rebounds, a career high for the second-year guard.
- Sultan Haider Bhatti led Brandon in both points and rebounds for the second consecutive night, finishing with 16 and 7, respectively.
- The win gives both teams a 1-3 record through the first two weekends of the Canada West schedule.
NEXT UP
The Cougars are back home next weekend against Pacific Division opponent UNBC. They'll host the Timberwolves at 7:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
