Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars pull off reverse sweep in thrilling five-set win over Winnipeg

Grimsrud finishes with 14 kills, 14 digs in victory

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's volleyball team dropped the first two sets to Winnipeg, but came all the way back for a five-set victory over the Wesmen on Friday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

SET-BY-SET RECAP
  • Winnipeg took the opening two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-20.
  • In the third, Regina sprinted out to an early lead thanks to a 5-0 run with Reese Evjen on serve. The Cougars kept the pedal down and at one point led 17-5 before coasting to a commanding 25-16 victory.
  • The fourth set was almost exactly the same story. Regina jumped out to leads of 6-0, 10-1, and 14-2 and waltzed to a 25-14 victory to force a fifth and deciding set.
  • Winnipeg had a stronger start in the fifth as the Wesmen took four of the opening five points, but the Cougars rallied with a 7-2 run that put them up 8-6 at the side switch. Winnipeg took the next two points, but the Cougars reeled off five consecutive points with Jordy McEachern serving that put them in complete control of the set. Winnipeg battled back to make the score 14-12, but Regina setter Cassadi Klapak finished off the match herself with a kill to close out the match.

NOTES
  • Devyn Grimsrud had 14 kills and 14 digs to finish with a big double-double for Regina (3-4).
  • Samantha Krausher finished with eight kills and seven digs.
  • Klapak had 34 assists and 12 digs.
