Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars take out TWU 4-1 to complete weekend sweep

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Trinity Western at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring a little past the midway point of the first when Jakob Brook found Eric Pearce in the slot for a one-timer, giving Pearce his sixth goal of the season.
  • Paycen Bjorklund increased the lead for the Cougars in the second period after Jackson Doucet's shot from the slot was kicked out by Trinity Western goalie Isaac LaBelle, but Bjorklund was right there to pounce on the rebound for his team-leading ninth goal.
  • Brook gave the Cougars a three-goal cushion on the power play in the third. A shot by Doucet was saved by LaBelle, and Brook jumped on the loose puck for the insurance goal.
  • Trinity Western got one back a few minutes later on a Jarrett Penner power play goal, but that was as close as the Spartans would come and the Cougars sealed the win with a late empty net goal by Logan Barlage.

NOTES
  • Ethan Anders made his third consecutive start for the Cougars, stopping 24 of 25 shots to record his third win of the season and his second win over the Spartans in as many days.
  • Doucet also got the second helper on Brook's goal, giving him a three-assist night. Brook, Bjorklund, Pearce, and Barlage all had a goal and an assist.
  • Both teams finished 1-for-4 on the power play. Regina had a 42-25 advantage on shots.

NEXT UP
The Cougars will close out their 2023-24 season with a road series at Calgary next weekend.
