Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars shut out by Dinos in Friday opener

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered an 8-0 loss to Calgary on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Calgary opened the scoring with three goals in the opening period, including two in a span of just 37 seconds. Jake Gricius opened the scoring a little past the midway point of the first, then Jake Poole and Dakota Krebs scored the quick ones for the Dinos. Poole's goal came on the power play, while Krebs was the beneficiary of a nice pass from Marty Westhaver and tapped it in to put Calgary up three.
  • Poole struck again on the power play for the only goal of the second, and Calgary ended any hope of a comeback with two early goals in the third. Max Patterson scored just over a minute in, then Colson Gengenbach potted his Canada West-leading 20th goal of the year a minute and a half later.
  • Calgary capped the scoring with goals from Connor Gutenberg and Poole, with the final one giving Poole a hat trick with all three goals coming on the power play.

NOTES
  • Regina goalie Adam Evanoff saved 41 of Calgary's 49 shots. The Dinos' Carl Tetachuk stopped all 24 Regina shots to notch his third shutout of the season.
  • Poole also had an assist, giving him a four-point night.
  • Calgary was deadly with the power play, ending up 4-for-7 for the game. The Cougars were 0-for-5.
