QUICKLY
One night after ending Saskatchewan's bid for a perfect season, the University of Regina's women's basketball team was defeated 90-57 by the Huskies on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was close through one quarter, but Saskatchewan scored the first 10 points of the second to pull away from the Cougars.
- The Huskies had another 8-0 run later in the second quarter to build up a 20-point lead and took a 49-33 advantage into halftime. Saskatchewan led 67-50 through three quarters, and ended any hope of a Regina comeback with an 11-0 run to start the fourth.Â
NOTES
- Carly Ahlstrom led Saskatchewan (17-1) in scoring with 18 points while Tea DeMong had 15 and Andrea Dodig scored 14.
- The Cougars were led by Cara Misskey's 13 points.
- Regina (13-5) will enter the final weekend of the regular season ranked No. 5 in the conference in RPI, which is used to seed teams for Canada West's postseason tournament. The Cougars can still finish anywhere from fourth to eighth in RPI.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will play their final home games of the 2023-24 season next Friday and Saturday against Winnipeg at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. After that, they'll have 11 days to prepare for the Canada West Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be hosted by Fraser Valley starting on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
