The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in three straight sets by Mount Royal on Friday night in Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Mount Royal took control of the first set with five straight points to go up 13-5, then cruised to a 25-15 victory. The Cougars hit .208 as a team in the opening set, but MRU fired at an impressive .483 clip.
• The second set went Mount Royal's way by a 25-18 score. The Cougars were within three points at 16-13, but MRU took six of the next eight points to pull away for good.
• Mount Royal scored five straight points as part of an early 7-1 run to jump into the lead in the third set. They went on to clinch the match with a 25-16 win.

NOTES

• Sydney Scatcherd led Mount Royal with 12 kills while Lexi Herrod had 31 assists to go along with 13 digs.
• Bailey Balaberda and Devyn Grimsrud both had six kills and five digs as both players tied for the team lead in those two categories.

NEXT UP
The Cougars will get another chance at Mount Royal on Saturday night (6:00 MST) before returning to Regina. They'll close out the 2023-24 season at home against Winnipeg next Friday and Saturday.
