Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cougars surrender three second-half goals in 3-0 loss to Manitoba

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's soccer team surrendered three second-half goals and lost 3-0 to Manitoba on Saturday afternoon at the U of R Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first half which saw the Cougars hold a 5-3 advantage in shots on net, the Bisons broke through with a Janelle Chomini goal in the 59th minute. Jessica Tsai put Chomini into the clear with a through ball, and Chomini slipped it past Kareena Andersen for her third goal of the season.
  • Just eight minutes later, Nyema Prentice-Whyte broke down the Regina defence before firing a hard shot into the left side of the net to put Manitoba up by two.
  • Manitoba notched its third goal in the 73rd minute following a nicely delivered Paris Sidhu corner kick. Shannon Lee rose up in the box and headed it just over Andersen, giving the defender her first goal of the season.

NOTES
  • Holly Dyker saved all seven of the U of R's shots on net to secure the shutout. Andersen stopped three shots for Regina.
  • Regina ended up with eight shots on net with Allyson Schneider, Kirsten Koellmel, and Peyton Enns all recording two apiece. Prentice-Whyte and Chomini combined for five of Manitoba's six shots on net.
  • Simran Lally and Jenna Muir both made their Canada West debuts for the Cougars. Lally played the entire second half, while Muir played the final 20 minutes.

NEXT UP
The Cougars (1-2-0) are back at home on Sunday against a Winnipeg Wesmen squad which fell to 0-3-0 after a 9-0 loss to Saskatchewan on Saturday. That match is scheduled for a noon kickoff at the U of R Field.
