QUICKLY
Lennox Lockhurst had two goals and an assist to lead the University of Regina's women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon at the U of R Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lockhurst got the Cougars started in the 18th minute after feeding a pass up to Peyton Enns in space. Enns' initial shot was blocked, but it rebounded directly to Lockhurst who scored from in tight for the first goal of the game.
- Lockhurst extended the lead in the 33rd minute after stepping into a shot from 25 yards out and blasting it just under the cross bar for her fifth career Canada West goal.
- The score stayed 2-0 in favour of Regina until the 69th minute. Jessica Chow, who had checked into the game at halftime, unleashed a left-footed rocket from 23 yards out into the left corner of the Winnipeg net.
- The Cougars added one more in injury time after Kirsten Koellmel sent a throw-in into the box. Emma Davidson sprinted to the deflected ball and scored her second of the year to finish off the scoring.
NOTES
- Cassidy Fedoruk stopped four shots to secure her first career shutout.
- Allyson Schneider had eight shot attempts and assisted on Chow's goal.
- Simran Lally got her first career start for the Cougars and played 45 minutes.
- Presley Fredlund played 21 minutes in her first career Canada West game.
- The Cougars ended up with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal in the win.
STANDINGS
After the first two weekends of conference play, the Cougars are one of three teams tied for fourth in the Prairie Division with 2-2-0 records. Alberta and Lethbridge are the others.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will hit the road for games against Calgary and Lethbridge next Saturday and Sunday.
