Early goals help lift Calgary to win over Cougars

Moore, Djuranic both score twice for Dinos in victory

QUICKLY
The Calgary Dinos scored two goals in the opening seven minutes and cruised to a 5-0 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West match in Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Grace Moore scored both of Calgary's two early goals, the first of which came in the third minute after an unfortunate play for the Cougars which saw starting netminder Kareena Andersen slip while delivering a goal kick. The ball went to Moore, who was able to put it over Andersen from distance before the goalkeeper was able to fully recover.
  • Just a few minutes later, Rachel Barlow took advantage of a Regina turnover in the midfield and slipped a pass over to Moore, who put it over Andersen to score her second of the game and her sixth of the season.
  • Ella Djuranic extended the lead for Calgary with a goal in the 29th minute. The Dinos took that 3-0 lead into the break after enjoying a first half which saw them hold a 19-6 advantage in shots attempted and a 7-0 lead in shots on net.
  • Paige Cates scored just two minutes into the second half to all but end any hope of a Regina comeback. Djuranic capped the scoring with a goal for Calgary in the 54th minute.

NOTES
  • Jenna Muir got her first career start for the Cougars and played 25 minutes.
  • The Cougars fall to 2-3-0 on the season with the setback. With six points, Regina is tied with Lethbridge for fifth place in Canada West's eight-team Prairie Division.
  • Calgary (4-1-0) sits second in the division with 12 points.
