Game Recap: Rams Football |

Ground game lifts No. 9 Alberta past Rams

Golden Bears rush for 252 yards in 30-6 win over Regina

QUICKLY
No. 9-ranked Alberta's ground game led the way on Friday night as the Golden Bears took a 30-6 victory over the Regina Rams at Foote Field in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alberta opened the scoring with a field goal, but threw the game's first haymaker when Matthew Peterson reeled off a 73-yard run to put the Golden Bears up 10-0 late in the first quarter.
  • Alberta went on an 11-play, 85-yard touchdown drive to start the second quarter. Ope Oshinubi finished that off with a four-yard run for the score as Alberta extended the lead to 17-0.
  • The Rams had a chance to close out the half with a field goal after a 53-yard pass from Noah Pelletier to Renzel Arinaza put them into Alberta territory, but Isaac Wegner's 42-yard attempt was blocked.
  • Alberta put two field goals through in the third quarter and all but ended any hope of a Rams comeback when Eli Hetlinger threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Erik Torhjelm to put the Golden Bears up 30-0.
  • The Rams scored their only points of the game on the ensuing drive. A 26-yard pass from Pelletier to Rylan Sokul with a 15-yard Alberta penalty tacked onto the end of the play got them to midfield. Pelletier then hit D'Sean Mimbs for a 9-yard gain before scrambling for a 21-yard rush on a third-down situation, and then threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Arinaza.

NOTES
  • Alberta finished with 252 rushing yards, most of which were registered by Peterson (116) and Oshinubi (78).
  • Arinaza caught 4 passes and finished with a game-high 88 receiving yards. Mimbs led all players with 5 receptions and had 42 yards, while Sokul and Nicholas Sirleaf both had 4 catches.
  • Pelletier completed 16 of his 31 pass attempts and finished with 225 passing yards. Trey Jones came on for Regina's final drive, finishing 4-for-8 for 23 yards.
  • Colin McKellar led the Rams in tackles, finishing with five solo tackles and six assisted. McKellar and Jaxon Runge shared a tackle for loss, while Cameron Mah had a solo TFL.
