Cougars take 4-1 road win over Lethbridge

Four different players score in victory; two goals scored via penalty kick

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's soccer team got four goals from four different players as the Cougars took a 4-1 road victory over Lethbridge on Sunday afternoon at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a play which was started by a turnover forced by Mikaela De Luca. De Luca fed the ball up to Lennox Lockhurst, who outraced a pair of Lethbridge defenders and got a good shot off. Lethbridge's keeper Cassandra Pasveer made the initial save, but Kirsten Koellmel buried the rebound.
  • Lethbridge tied it up just a couple minutes later following a cross into the box from the right. The ball deflected right to Hailey Slobodian, who stepped into a shot from in tight and tied it up.
  • The Cougars regained the lead in the 28th minute on a penalty kick awarded when Lockhurst was taken down in the box. Zoya Kim stepped up and buried it, notching her first career Canada West goal and putting Regina back into the lead.
  • The score stayed 2-1 for Regina through halftime, but the Cougars extended the lead early in the second half on another penalty kick. Peyton Enns was fouled in the area and the fourth-year forward took the shot herself, scoring her second of the year.
  • The Cougars finished the scoring just a couple minutes later with Enns again in the middle of the play. Enns successfully evaded a charge by Pasveer and slipped a pass back to Lockhurst, who lifted a shot over a Lethbridge defender for her third goal of the season.

NOTES
  • The win improves Regina's record to 3-3-0 on the season. The Cougars are in sole possession of fifth place in Canada West's Prairie Division, three points back of Alberta for the fourth and final postseason berth.
  • Cassidy Fedoruk got the start in net for Regina and made five saves while recording her second victory of the season.
  • The Cougars had a 23-9 advantage in shot attempts and a 12-6 edge in shots on goal.
